Grading at the Show vs. Mailing It In: What On-Site CGC/PSA Booths Actually Offer

Grading has become central to the hobby, and bigger shows increasingly bring the grading companies to you. Several of the larger touring shows now set up PSA, CGC, BGS, or JSA booths right on the floor — so instead of shipping a card off and waiting, you can hand it over in person.

What on-site grading actually is

You submit your card at the booth, same as you would online, but in person and usually with a faster turnaround tied to that specific show — sometimes same-day, sometimes a few weeks out depending on the volume they're handling. Either way, you skip the part where your card sits in transit twice.

The tradeoff: speed for price

On-site and rush grading tiers almost always cost more per card than standard mail-in service. You're not just paying to grade the card — you're paying to jump the line. For a card worth real money, that premium is often easy to justify. For a stack of commons, it usually isn't.

When it's worth it

A high-value card you don't want sitting in a shipping envelope for weeks. A card you're hoping to sell while show buzz (and buyer traffic) is still high. Or simply the peace of mind of handing something valuable to a person instead of a courier.

When mailing it in still wins

Bulk submissions, lower-value cards, or anything without a real deadline. Standard mail-in tiers are dramatically cheaper per card once you're submitting more than one or two — the math stops favoring on-site service fast.

Before you submit at a show

Confirm which company actually has a booth — not every show has all four, and some only bring one. Ask their turnaround time for that specific event, since it varies show to show. And check payment and fee structure upfront; some booths are cash-only, and rush tiers often carry a minimum.
