5 Must-Haves for Every Card Show

Card Shows Nearby

Walking into a card show without the right gear is how good deals slip past you. None of this requires a big investment — just a few basics that make the difference between browsing and actually buying smart.

A box or carry case for your cards

Between what you bring to sell and what you walk away with, you need somewhere to put it all that isn't your pockets. A card box, storage case, or even a sturdy binder works — just don't show up planning to carry everything loose in your hands.

Cash

Many vendors don't take cards, and the ones who do sometimes tack on a fee. Bring plenty, and keep some smaller bills on hand — breaking a fifty at a folding table isn't always easy.

Your cards priced out

If you're bringing cards to sell or trade, know what you want for them before you get there. It keeps the conversation moving and shows other collectors you've done your homework.

Penny sleeves and a few top loaders

If you're buying raw cards, they're not staying safe in your pocket. A stack of penny sleeves and a couple of top loaders weighs nothing and saves your pulls from getting bent on the drive home.

Great energy!

Card shows are as much about the people as the cards. Bring a good attitude, strike up a conversation or two, and you'll walk away with more than what's in your bag — that's half the reason people keep coming back.

None of this is complicated — it's the difference between a show that's fun to browse and one where you actually walk away with what you came for.
